31st Stillwell Exhibition

Overview: Marketing & Advertising

Role: Graphic Designer

Tool: Abobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop

San Francisco State University hosts an annual Stillwell Exhibition in the Fine Arts Gallery to pay homage to the work of the late Leo D. Stillwell Jr. and to showcase the work of the students. The gallery contacted the Design Working Group to create a brand identity for this exhibition and was given full creative ability due to the lack of set theme for the show. Therefore my team and I came up with a neutral identity that highlighted that this was a student driven show.

Inspiration

My team and I began by researching posters that have been created with the purpose of promoting a show that  incorporated both bold typography and vibrant color to intentionally highlight the events information.

Iterations

I created three separate designs to propose to the client with multiple color options to see which was preferred and stood out more.

Both the middle and last designs were strong, however, they were not impactful enough on their own. My team and I came up with the idea of combining the unique elements of each poster to create more character.

Final

In the end, we selected the typography for one concept and the visual element of the other to create the final deliverable for the client. The design comes off as both inviting and fun, as well as, drawing curiosity to what the show will pertain.
