Schweppes Tonic Water

Overview: Brand & Packaging Redesign

Role: Graphic Designer

Tools: Illustrator, Photoshop

In 1783, the Swiss beverage brand Schweppes was born and began making its legacy around the world. I tackled giving the iconic Schweppes Tonic Water can a new modern look by simplifying the color palette and rearranging the nutrition facts into something that is easier to read and understand.

Process

For this project, I was presented with the challenge of only utilizing the font family of Gill Sans in my redesign of the classic Schweppes Tonic Water. To the right, you can see the exploration between the face of the can and the text that appears on the original. By stripping down the text to be all the same size, I was able to place it and see how I would like the direction of the typography in the next iterations.

Ideation

I then explored the text by using different weights and sizes of Gill Sans to start to create a hierarchy on the label.

We were challenged to observe and redesign the Nutrition Fact label by emphasizing the most important information so one could scan and understand the information quicker.

Iterations

I utilized the colors that I sampled from the original design to see which combination of colors worked best together and combination of typography.

The final design for the Schweppes soda was redesigned to highlight the flavor of the beverage and left the brand and the established date to be revealed at closer inspection. I went with mustard yellow and black and made cut outs with the lettering on either side of the color block.
